Important One-time Upgrade Instructions (for existing Dolphin3D Web Browser Users upgrading to version 1.50) ===================================================================================== Please follow these instructions to ensure a successful upgrade. Dolphin3D Version 1.50 is a Major Upgrade ------------------------------------------ It includes significant technical changes intended to improve performance, usability, security, and compatibility with all supported versions of Windows. Before you install the new version, you should decide between one of the two following options: (Optional: Regardless of which of the two options you choose you should first perform a Dolphin3D "Privacy Cleanup" from the Tools Menu (the gear) in Dolphin3D, if desired, so you don't leave any unwanted private browsing history stranded behind during this process) Option #1 - Fresh Start: ------------------------ If you just want a fresh start and don't care about any of your saved Dolphin3D user data or saved user preferences you can just uninstall your current Dolphin3D installation through the Windows Control Panel, then install Dolphin3D version 1.50 (or higher) using the new setup program. If you choose this option you can stop reading this document and proceed with the new install. Option #2 - Upgrade Your Current Installation and Retain Existing Dolphin3D User Data: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you want to retain your current user data (including your Dolphin3D Favorite Buttons, QuickGroups and previous session groups, Dolphin browsing histories, RSS newsfeeds, user preferences, personalized spelling dictionaries, icons, locked images, etc.) you must follow the directions below carefully in the order specified to ensure that your user data is preserved: 1. Step 1 - Install the new "Setup_Dolphin3D_v1.50.exe" setup program you downloaded (you might not see the .exe extension on your computer or it might end with a different sub-version letter other than 'a'). During the install, make sure you choose the same installation folder that your current installation of Dolphin3D lives in (which will usually be C:\Program Files\Dolphin3D for older installations). After running the new setup file, return to these instructions and go to Step 2. 2. Step 2 - You'll notice the new install will put a shortcut on your desktop named "Dolphin3D Web Browser" (if you accepted that option during setup). Delete that shortcut, because it points to an unneeded default user named "D3D" that this newer setup creates to help streamline the installation process for first-time users. You should also delete the "Quick Launch" shortcut icon of the same if you specified that option. 3. Step 3 - Follow these next three instructions to delete the "D3D" default user and run the one-time Dolphin3D data migration tool: __ First, right-click on the Windows Start button and select 'explore'. Locate your 'C' drive in that explorer window, then open the 'Program Files' folder, then the 'Dolphin3D' folder (if that's the installation location you specified). __ Second, inside the Dolphin3D folder you'll select (by clicking on) and delete the folder named 'D3D' (by pressing the delete/del button on your keyboard and agreeing to any prompts that follow). __ Third, find the file in the Dolphin3D folder named "D3DDataMover.exe" (or just "D3DDataMover"). If you're using Vista or Windows 7 - right-click on the file and select the "Run as administrator" option and agree to any security prompts that follow. If using Windows XP just double-click on the file to run it. Then follow the program's instructions for migrating your Dolphin3D user data to its new folder (it will show you where it's moving your data). Once you're done with this step, return to these instructions and go to Step 3. 3. Step 3 - Once you have successfully migrated your data and closed the one-time data migration tool you can go back to your desktop (or wherever you normally start your Dolphin3D web browsing session from) and click on your Dolphin3D Username shortcut to launch Dolphin. The first time you launch your copy of Dolphin3D you'll get a dialog titled "Newer Version of Dolphin3D Detected". Press Yes to agree to upgrade your user copy to the newest version. 4. If all went smoothly, you're done. If you have any problems, try restarting your computer and re-launching your user copy of Dolphin. If you still have problems, please email me at: dolphinmaster@dolphin3d.com - and I'll try to help you. Thanks for using Dolphin3D! Please send me your feedback or requests any time.
